Solution found! Start a new email. Save it as a draft (swipe down at the top of the message). Now you have two drafts at the bottom. Tap on the drafts (or swipe up) and both drafts will appear. Then touch the “x” to close out both messages. This worked for me.

A techie friend helped me fix it this am. Here was his advice: my guess would be that something in the forwarded message got corrupted (sometimes it just happens) and the mail app is crashing as it continues to use data to try and send it out. if you haven’t emptied out your deleted folder you may be able to retrieve it. If possible, go into you deleted folder, find the original email and move it back into your inbox and try again. Delete the stuck message in your outbox the try to forward the original email again.

Hi ctorresx53,

To clarify, you have a red badge over the Mail app indicating there is an unread email? Or do you have an email notification banner like you'd typically see in the Notification Center or an actual email superimposed over the bottom part of your iPhone display.

If its the former and you see a red badge you can't get rid of, open the Mail app, then press the Back (<) arrow at the top left of the screen if you have one there until you see the Mailboxes page.

On that page, confirm if you have multiple email accounts that the "Inbox" folder for each account does not have any unread messages.

Let us know if that helps.

Cheers!

Hi there,

I believe I am experiencing the same issue as @ctorresx53 - and it isn't either of the options you provided @DerekM87.

For me, it appears as though there is an email draft being held at the bottom of the screen (as occurs normally), but when I press on the email my mail app closes. My problem began as I tried to send an email to a non-existent email address and now the undeliverable email is stuck down there. It doesn't show up in drafts and I've tried quitting and restarting the app and my phone several times and it isn't going away.

Hoping this is similar to the problem @ctorresx53 is experiencing and I'm not hijacking a thread.

Help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

This worked! Thank you so much! I’d tried everything to get rid of the stuck draft at the bottom of the screen - restarting my phone, deleting then reinstalling the email account, and trying to locate the draft on my PC - but nothing worked and touching the stuck draft just caused the mail app to crash. The cause was trying to include attachments when forwarding an email, which the mail app definitely doesn’t like! Thank you again, this is a brilliant solution and worked the first time.
