Cards linked to my Apple Pay/Wallet have been hacked - What can I do to ensure security moving forward?

Hi, last week my credit card that I use for my Wallet/Pay was hacked - I had unknown iTunes charges and overseas charges - they got flagged and I quickly blocked my card.

As I use my Apple Pay for day-to-day expenses, I linked my debit card from another bank in the interim, and that too suffered an iTunes charge and I was charged a weird sum for it ($4.56 etc). Thankfully as my pw didn't seem to work/I forgot it(I use facial reco), I then updated my Apple ID password not long after linking the new card and the fraud stopped, and I also blocked off my debit card for a new one.

Right now I'm just wondering if my iPhone itself was compromised, or was it my Apple ID. I never did get a notification that an unknown device had logged in to my Apple ID prior to the hack.

What can I do if my phone itself was compromised? I scanned my laptop and it seemed fine. And what more can I do to secure my Apple ID aside from changing my password? I've checked devices and only allowed my own devices. Just worried that every subsequent new card I add to my Apple ID will be hacked. Thanks.

I'll start off with observing that your card could also have been compromised outside the Apple environment.

Hi Limnos,

I have been thinking that my C.C might have been compromised by one of those shopping sites I visited.

However my debit card had always been used for cash withdrawal only, and was only used in my Apple Pay as an emergency alternative for that one day. It was also the day I got two unknown iTunes charges on it, so I've been flabbergasted.

Thankfully, a password change and card replacements worked. Just looking for something I can do to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Many thanks for the links - I will read thru them :)
