macbook hash mismatch detected volume disk1s5. macOS should be reinstalled on this volume

This pop-up appears, and suspect after updating very recently to Monterey 12.6.3. suspect it is Mac software problem, and not on my MacBook Pro so don't want to reinstall

We'll be happy to share our recommendations for you to try when seeing this message appear.


If your MacBook Pro has an Intel processor, then try resetting the SMC.


If your MacBook Pro has the new Apple silicon processor, then we suggest backing up your Mac and reinstalling the macOS.

Well, it’s not clear yet what actually causes the hash mismatch error in macOS, as users have reported it randomly appearing, or after a significant system crash or kernel panic. However, whenever user experience this error message, it’s a good idea to immediately backup all data on the Mac with Time Machine or any other backup method of choice.


Further, user can also try the below troubleshooting methods to fix the issue:


1. Reset SMC

2. Reset PRAM/NVRAM

3. Reinstall macOS

On rare occasions but has happened, the issue is related to a Bad RAM Module on the computer

Some have reported, not even the Tech Person was not even away of this RAM Module Issue
