Can I use the USB C to apple charger adapter to link an Apple Pencil 1st generation with an iPad Pro?

I have been able to locate this adapter USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter - Apple which says it works for iPad 10th generation. Would it also work with my device? The ports are correct but I don't know if it will have the functionality to sync my pencil with my iPad instead of just charging. I can't find any other official adapters with the correct ports. No.

The First Generation Apple Pencil is not compatible with iPad Pros with USB-C ports. It will not pair with them.
