Does Apple Mail have any known bugs?

I've been having some problems with my Mail recently, and it just occurred to me that maybe the problem is with Mail, not me. Here are the two "malfunctions" that have caused me to sometimes type my message in Numbers and then copy and paste it into Mail.

  1. Instability. The Mail page/site doesn't stand still. It frequently scrolls down so that I have to scroll back in order to continue typing.
  2. Unintended erasure of words/lines: Sometimes, entire words, even lines are removed, especially when I try to make some minor corrections, such as with typos.

The current stable release of Ventura including bug fixes, security updates is macOS Ventura 13.2 I would start there.

In addition to the very wise suggestions by P. Phillips may I offer some thoughts on automatic updates: if you use your Mac for business you may not want to automatically update each time one is offered for the system. That is in case there may be some incompatibilities with important apps used for your business.

A better approach, IMO, would be to get an external SSD, clone your boot drive to it with Carbon Copy Cloner and when a system update or upgrade is available apply to it and run on it to see if there are any problems with any of the important apps.

I use a bare 1 TB SSD with a USB to SATA adaptor cable like this as it's less expensive that one with it's own enclosure and cable.

It's also easy to swap out SSDs for other systems or storage.

Just some food for thought.
