How to put a dot under or above a number in Pages?

Hi guys,

This is a really weird one that I have here.

I was trying to figure out how to put a dot above or under a number, and I saw there is a Putting a dot option just next to the Bold button which I can just click and add a dot above or below the numbers in my text. I have no idea why it was here just like that. However, I have no control over placing it above or under the number as it decides where it wants to go by itself. When I tried to figure out where to adjust its location, it disappeared from the surface. And now I am trying to find it again.

Can someone tell me how to find it and use it? Thanks!

Press control+command+spacebar to open the character viewer. In its search field, enter the word combining. Look for a combining dot above, click on it, and then click Add to Favorites. Look for a combining dot below, and repeat the previous Add to Favorites. Close the character viewer.

When you want to produce a dot above a number, enter the number, open the character viewer, select Favorites in its sidebar, and double-click combining dot above from Favorites. Same approach for the dot below a number, selecting the combining dot below. Or you can do above and below.

What version on MacOS?

Apple menu > About this Mac…

What version of Pages?

Pages menu > About Pages…

I did a quick scan through the character viewer list (click the region buton in the row at the right side of the top of the screen, and choose emoji and symbols) and did find 'dot above' in the punctuation section, but "above" seemed to be 'at the height of' with a numeral. and the character occupied a space of its own instead of the same space as the character it was supposed to be 'above'.

More detail on what it is expected to do and how to include that dot might provide the means for a more thorough search, and the possibility of a better response.

Barry

Wrong dot. You need Combining Dot Above or Below. 3̣̇

Hi Tom,

Knew that it was the wrong dot, but hadn't seen the right one in my quick scan through Punctuation in the viewer, and didn't get back to the discussions page for a few hours after sending the message above.

Thanks for your post, which sent me back to the viewer to re-do/complete the search.

Thanks also to Viking for the key combination to open the viewer and info on inserting the character into the text without having to drag it across the screen.

Regards,

Barry
