I know there’s a way to reply to a specific text in a long stream of texts.. how is this done?

Looks like it. And what I described only works for replying to iPhones, you are correct.
I avoid group texts with mix of iphones and droid phones because like hotel California, you can check out but can never leave. Bad news for school kids groups where bullying can occur.
These are both outside the control of Apple as it becomes an SMS operated conversation with their own international protocol.
Ok, so this works on group texts when not all folks have iPhones??
