The article linked to your posting offers a lot of great information about using the Schooltime feature: Use Schooltime on Apple Watch - Apple Support. When you have Schooltime activated on your or a child's watch, notifications are paused until the feature is turned off again. At that time, the Calendar notification would be available for viewing.
