Tethered connectivity speeds

I have a MacBook 16" M1 that I occasionally take to the local library. I could use the half decent broadband there but there is 5G mobile tower adjacent to it that would be better. So If I connect my iPhone 14 Pro MAX to the 5g tower I get about 930Mbps. If I tether my mobile to the Mac this then drops to about 76Mbps.

Obviously I'd like a faster connection and I thought I would get the same speed when I tethered.

Any way of achieving a boost?

Hello john120165,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. With the Personal Hotspot feature from an iPhone to your MacBook, it states in this Apple Support article the following: "When you turn on Maximize Compatibility, internet performance and Wi-Fi security might be reduced for devices connected to the hotspot." That information is outlined here: If Personal Hotspot is not working on your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular) - Apple Support

That being said the performance of the Wi-Fi with the Personal Hotspot can be reduced in reference to the speed. For further assistance on this matter, you'll want to contact your carrier to see if there's any way to enhance the performance level of the Personal Hotspot feature.

Kind regards.
