ive got this mac for about 2 and a half years and this isnt the first time this has happened the lcd is doing this randomly but i cant know for sure when it will be back to normal, if anyone has a similar issue with their lcd panel pls respond because i dont want to go another week or so without my pc for no reason.
(it is 100% the lcd’s problem because i can still use it and im hearing sounds from apps)

The display panel , the display cabling or the GPU is failing, You’re best bet is to schedule a service appointment at your local Authorized Apple Service Provider, have it evaluated and then decide to repair or replace the iMac.
I agree with user den.thed that your panel, cabling or GPU (graphics/video processing unit – not CPU) is failing.
You can test by using another monitor connected to the iMac with an appropriate Thunderbolt adapter, either VGA or HDMI.
Regardless, the iMac has a problem and before you spend much money on the obsolete computer, you might consider replacing it with a newer model that can carry you forward.
Like the others have said, you have a hardware issue with this iMac. With vertical lines most likely the LCD Panel is bad, although it could be a bad or loose cable. If it is the LCD Panel, then you may as well purchase a new computer as the Display Assembly (LCD is glued to the front glass panel) is very expensive to replace...it is the most expensive part of the iMac.
Its not the gpu as I already stated above and i cant take it to an authorized apple service provider because the nearest one is over 400 kilometers from me and also they will probably tell me to replace the display which would lead to me paying more than i got this computer for.
