Imac late 2012 vertical lines

ive got this mac for about 2 and a half years and this isnt the first time this has happened the lcd is doing this randomly but i cant know for sure when it will be back to normal, if anyone has a similar issue with their lcd panel pls respond because i dont want to go another week or so without my pc for no reason.

(it is 100% the lcd’s problem because i can still use it and im hearing sounds from apps)

I agree with user den.thed that your panel, cabling or GPU (graphics/video processing unit – not CPU) is failing.

You can test by using another monitor connected to the iMac with an appropriate Thunderbolt adapter, either VGA or HDMI.


Regardless, the iMac has a problem and before you spend much money on the obsolete computer, you might consider replacing it with a newer model that can carry you forward.

Like the others have said, you have a hardware issue with this iMac. With vertical lines most likely the LCD Panel is bad, although it could be a bad or loose cable. If it is the LCD Panel, then you may as well purchase a new computer as the Display Assembly (LCD is glued to the front glass panel) is very expensive to replace...it is the most expensive part of the iMac.
