How can I color code appointments in Calendar? I do not want to use separate calendars.

first, open the calendar sidebar and put a checkmark in these spots:

then when you create a new event, choose the colour on the top right of the new event menu.

and you can also use that button to change the colour of an already created event.

In Calendar App go to bottom middle and tap “calendar”. Then tap “Add Calendar” on bottom left. Tap “Add Calendar” again. Now you can name a new calendar and choose a new colour including custom colours.
