Receiving verification text messages on iPhone suddenly stopped

I have been getting verification text for 2 factor authentication on my iPhone for years and suddenly they have stopped coming. In addition, I noticed that automated verification messages from OpenTable and an online ticket outlet have also stopped coming. However, I continue to get sms and other texts from both friends and advertisers and politicians looking for a contribution. What could have happened and how can I fix it?

Double check the correct cell number is inputted, if it is then contact your phone carrier, SMS is their feature.
