Iphone storage blank

Hi all,

Anyone found a solution to the supremely frustrating issue of the internal storage on an iphone showing up as blank on a Windows PC?

This has now happened to me across two different iphones (12 pro and 14pro) and across 3 different PCs. Initially the storage appears ok on Windows explorer. Then when I try to transfer some photos, after a while the connection stalls, after which, and forever more, the storage on the phone appears blank (even though I can still back up the phone locally via iTunes). This is really blowing a vein in my head as I am trying to back up a tonne of photos (and not wanting to shell out a wad of cash to do it on iCloud or similar service).

Thanks - using an apple cord worked -sort of.

It is very slow to respond. So when I plug the phone in, it recognises it immediately, but the storage and photos don't show up for a good minute.

Plus, even copying over one of the DCIM sub-folders takes ages to respond (around a minute to get any sort of confirmation that the copying is taking place). Trying to copy over more than one sub-folder just errors the process.

Its weird as it should not be this slow - copying over individual subfolders with such lag is going to be horribly painful!

Probably the iPhone is not connected to your device.

This is what I see when I connect my iPhone under Properties. I would recommend restarting both the device the PC and the iPhone.

If you still have the issue check the cable that you are using. --> Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector

If storage on your device differs from what you see in the Finder or iTunes

Since the Finder and iTunes categorize cached files as Other, reported usage for Music or Videos might differ. To view usage on your device, go to Settings > General > [Device] Storage.
