Mail crash

Suddenly the Mail app crashes when I try to open the Junk folder in one of my email accounts. The odd thing is this happens on both my MacMini (M1, 2020) and my MacBook Air (M1, 2020). I just upgraded to Ventura 13.2 on both devices. Haven't found anything else that crashes the app (yet), including Junk folders on other accounts.

Another update. After viewing the two new messages in the junk folder through my browser, I deleted them. After this I was able to open the junk folder in the mail app without issue and I have had no problem since.

My issue began the same way 3 days ago. Scrolling the Junk mail folder crashed the app. Yesterday, I could not open the Mail app at all. It would start to open and then crash.

Apple Support walked me through the basic steps and nothing worked. Safe Mode: still crashed. Removed startup items: still crashed. I created a new user account on the same device and the app opened. iOS and iPadOS Mail are working fine.

The next step was the next step was to wipe the device and install the OS. I didn’t have a good backkup, so waiting on an SSD to do the backup and keep troubleshooting.

Since the new User could open Mail, it makes me wonder if something is wrong with my Mail account. I’ve seen other posts about removing accounts and will try that tonight.

After multiple sessions with Apple Support, the last advisor had me turn off mail for my two accounts--work and Apple Mail and open the Mail app. It opened and I then turned mail back on for those accounts.

The really odd thing is that messages started to download again--thousands and thousands of messages. Between my work and Mail accounts, I have about 140,000 messages. The Mail app downloaded well over 200,000 messages. No idea why or what they were.

Once that completed, the Junk mail folder started crashing the app. (I review and delete the junk from my phone.) Now, the Mail app is downloading messages again. This time it is downloading 90,000+ messages. Again, no idea why.
