How can I regain access to my encrypted PDF document in Preview?

Hi all, I was filling out a pdf application on preview today and realised it has become encrypted somehow while editing.

I have no clue what my password might be. The original document doesn’t have a password so it should be something that happened while I was filling the form.

I’d appreciate any suggestions on how I can get access to my document.

Thanks

Your administrator password should unlock it again. Click anywhere on the open PDF and press cmd+i. On that Inspector panel, click the lock symbol and then on that encryption panel, click Edit and that will open another panel where you can enter your admin password. This panel may not appear if you are using macOS older than Monterey.
