Notification Message "A Mac Added To Your Account"

The oddest thing just happened as I turned on this MacBook Pro running Ventura 13.1. A screen message popped on; I regrettably cannot remember the exact wording, but it essentially said something like this: (Some kind of) Optimization is in Progress. (Some application functions may be affected or something like 'some functions may not respond') Apologies, this best paraphrases the message.

The cursor moved, but the screen was essentially frozen. I couldn't get other screens to come up. The desktop icons were out of place. The Dock was in the wrong place. The machine was basically unresponsive. Out of frustration, I was able to Restart the MBP.

Upon startup, all the desktop icons and Dock were back in their normal arrangements. However, there was a new notification window in the top right corner. I was able to capture this message, which stated: " DEVICE ADDED TO YOUR ACCOUNT ". "A Mac now has access to iMessage and FaceTime. If you don't recognize this device you can remove it in System Settings"

I searched everywhere in System Settings and CANNOT find any evidence of a new Mac! Under Bluetooth > My Devices, all recognizable equipment says "Not Connected". Under NEARBY DEVICES, just the spinning wheel and 'Searching'.

Sooooo, why the two notification messages and brief change in operation? What, if any, is the significance of these two anomalies?

Glad to hear any opinions or recommendations!

Thanks,

Mark

Hey there prairie2001,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities.

For the best steps on how to check if any unrecognized devices are signed in to your Apple ID, check out the steps in this link here: Check your Apple ID device list to find where you're signed in - Apple Support

Use your Mac to find where you're signed in
1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings. In macOS Monterey or earlier, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences.
2. Click your name. In macOS Montery or earlier, click Apple ID.
3. Click any device name to view that device's information, such as the device model, serial number, and OS version. The information might vary depending on the device type. You might need to answer your security questions to view device details.

If you do see an unrecognized device, you can follow the steps in the additional section, "Use your Mac to remove a device" to remove that device from your account.

1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings. In macOS Monterey or earlier, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences.
2. Click your name. In macOS Monterey or earlier, click Apple ID.
3. Click the device to find its details, then click Remove from Account.
4. Review the message that appears, then click again to confirm that you want to remove the device.

If you don't see any other devices, then this pop-up may have been referring to your current device that was just updated. If you did remove an unrecognized device, we would then recommend going through the steps in the next resource to ensure that your account is secure: If you think your Apple ID has been compromised - Apple Support

As for the message about the optimization that was in progress, that can be expected after an update, and would have been indicating that apps and other functions may not work as expected while the optimization was in progress.

Let us know if that's able to help.

Have a great day!
