How can I clean my iPhone contacts?

My iPhone 8 Contacts lists over 9,000 entries with 8,500 entries for "Dizzy," followed by scads of "#" These don't show up when I check my iCloud contacts on my laptop

Is there a way to clean this up. Or even just delete the entire contents of Lists in Contacts?

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities BruceB6701,

It sounds like the contacts you've mentioned, could be syncing from another account.

Tap Settings > Contacts > Accounts.

If you see accounts other than your iCloud listed there, sign into the accounts from a web browser, and see whether the contacts appear there.
