When you go into recent calls and touch any item (contact or phone number) in the list it calls that person instantly. This is annoying for a number of reasons, so the question is, how do you disable this feature?

You cannot disable tap to call.
I agree i pocket dial with recents this needs to be fixed. Im going in means time to delete my recent call list so i dont one touch dial a work around
If you have a passcode on the phone then accidental pocket dials are unlikely.
Also ensure the phone is locked before putting it away.
