Device stuck showing old location in find my

My child’s device is linked through family sharing and the settings are correct for sharing his location with me, but FindMy is stuck on an old location. How do I get his location to update and stay current?

Hi there hausfrauCA,

If you're seeing the incorrect location for your child's device, you'll want to start by making sure all your devices are updated to the latest software version, which is iOS 16.3. You can check the currently installed version by going to Settings > General > About > Software Version. If needed, learn more about updating your devices here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Next, check to be sure that Location Services are turned on for your child's device:

How to turn Location Services on or off for specific apps
1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.
2. Make sure that Location Services is on.

You'll find more information here: Turn Location Services and GPS on or off on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Also, make sure you have their location turned on in Family Sharing with the guidance here: Share your location with your family - Apple Support

If Location Services are turned on and all the devices are updated and you still can't see an updated location for your child, try restarting their device with these steps: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

If the issue persists beyond that, you'll want to reach out to Apple Support directly. They're best-equipped to take a closer look at the issue and provide some guidance. This link will help you get started: Contact - Official Apple Support

Take care.
