Xfinity streaming app on Apple tv

New Apple TV. I’m an xfinity cable tv subscriber. My internet provider is not xfinity. (On the not all eggs in the same basket principle.) I can use the xfinity streaming app on an iPhone or their website on a Mac to AirPlay content from my cable subscription channels to the Apple TV. It appears that I cannot use the xfinity app on the Apple TV to do the same — what various messages seem to say is that I have to have xfinity as my internet provider too. Can anyone else confirm that that indeed is the case? AND why?

My triple-play TV provider/IPS/phone provider does the same. For TVs and TV-connected streaming devices, the internet connection is part of the authentication for TV streaming (from the cable package). Not usable at e.g. my neighbor’s house, with a different ISP.

Consider an internet-streaming-only TV provider, like Hulu+Live, YouTube TV, Sling TV, fuboTV, Philo, DirecTV Stream — totally independent of which ISP you use.
