I have a new macbook and am not getting email on it. I followed above info and tried to add account, my computer says it is an existing account already, but no emails appear

As had been posted earlier here, try removing and re-adding the mail account. See if that addresses the issue.
You've also subsequently marked the thread as solved / closed / answered. Closing a thread means that fewer folks will be looking at it.
