Several apps that I don't want or need automatically opened upon a reboot (MS Office, News, Maps) always startup, even though when I right-click them in the dock they do not show "open at login". I also checked my "Open at Login" in settings, and none of these apps are listed there. I am stumped. Thoughts?

On a One-off basis, I believe you can hold Shift after you enter your login credentials, and previously set Apps will not open.
This is used to dodge web sites that have 'taken over' your Mac running a script in your Browser.
