mac wifi off and can't switch on

I am currently running Ventura 13.2, but this problem has been going on for a few weeks and started before I upgraded. The wi-fi symbol is greyed out with an exclamation point on top if it. I can't slide the wifi switch to on. I cannot open wireless diagnostics. Double clicking on the app makes it show up briefly in the doc and then it disappears. The following have worked at least once, and the wifi would stay on for a few days, but none provided a permanent fix.

Restart Mac

Restart Linksys Router

Reset PRAM

Starting in SafeMode

What has not worked is reseting the wi-fi settings by moving files out of /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

I don't believe the problem is corrupt settings files, since these files have been re-generated many times now. Any other ideas?

When I open Network Preferences Wifi is not listed. I see Firewall, Ethernet and Thunderbolt Bridge. It's not easy for me to connect to Ethernet, I'll have to move my computer downstairs. Could this be a hardware problem? A bad wifi card? I have gotten the wifi to come on after the initial failure, it has shut off both when the computer has not been used for hours, when I have been actively trying to send email.

Regards,

Joanne
