Screen mirroring won’t load

I’ve been using the screen mirror function for months on my iPhone with no problems but yesterday when I tried to open it the loading icon keeps going. I tried restarting my phone and turned AirPlay off and on with no effect. Any other suggestions?

Hey leatha128,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. The steps below may help with the issue you're experiencing. They are also included in this article: If screen mirroring or streaming isn't working on your AirPlay-compatible device.

After each step, see if you still need help.

1. Make sure that your AirPlay-compatible devices are turned on and near each other.
2. Check that the devices are updated to the latest software and are on the same Wi-Fi network.
3. Restart the devices that you want to use with AirPlay or screen mirroring.

If you're prompted to enter a password, you might have restrictions turned on, or you might need to adjust your AirPlay password settings.

Steps below will check for iOS software updates which should be done in step 2.

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

For future reference, this article has the same steps: Update your iPhone or iPad.

Hope this helps. Take care.
