Peace of mind is misplaced. Non-Apple "anti-virus" products will increase your threat profile, make your Mac more vulnerable to malware, destabilize its operation, and prevent it from working properly. Read Effective defenses against malware and other threats - Apple Community. The extent of misery caused by "Bitdefender" reported on this site alone is staggering. Get rid of it.
It's been nearly a quarter century since macOS was introduced. During that time the aggregate number of hours spent on chasing viruses that don't exist and the commensurate loss of human productivity it has caused is beyond comprehension. Meanwhile "anti-virus" peddlers have realized countless billions of dollars in revenue. Enough already.
... my Antivirus Software keeps quarantining an infected file in safari called Trojan.Script.GenerickKDC.11742.
Uninstall your Antivirus Software. Rule 1 of Macs is don't install junk.
Hello,
Since upgrading to Mac OS Ventura 13.1 and now Mac OS Ventura 13.2 on my M1 MacBook Air (Which might not be related to my issue - issue started same time as 13.1 update) my Antivirus Software keeps quarantining an infected file in safari called Trojan.Script.GenerickKDC.11742. Finally I erased my hard drive reinstalled Mac OS 13.2, installed only necessary applications from the Apple App Store and not restore anything from Time Machine back up. However using Safari the infected file pops up again, but my antivirus keeps it from running. I did a complete scan of my Hard Drive after reinstalling 13.2. I only go to trusted sites and can’t figure out why this is happening. Using Firefox with same bookmarks no issue. It is definitely related to Safari and I have never had any virus prior to the update which again is probably unrelated.
Thank you for the advice. You are correct, even in today’s environment, antivirus software on a present day Mac device is more peace of mind than being necessary. Apple has done a good job of updating their Mac software with security protocols that are not seen by the user. Again this is more of seeing if the antivirus software is picking up a false flag when Mac OS updated Safari or when BitDefender came out with an update. Not really worried about my computer, just an investigation at this point.
