Every response I've read says to click the three dots in upper right, select edit playlist, then click on the minus sign. I DO NOT GET A MINUS SIGN when following those very basic instructions. UGH!!!
In the playlist you want to delete the song from, tap on the three dots on the right of the song and choose the top option - Remove from Playlist.

In that case maybe the playlist you’re trying to remove it from doesn’t allow. If it is pre-created, you can’t remove songs, but if you create it, you can.
Sorry but that does not work. I hit the three dots to the right of a song and I do NOT see the option to "remove from playlist". If I hit "remove" it gives me the options to remove download or to delete from library. Both of which remove the song entirely, not just from the play list I want it to be removed from. I wish someone could answer my question. Maybe the answers I get are simply designed to get me to live with it and stop asking questions.
