M2 macbook air battery drain

I just bought (last week) a brand new M2 MacBook Air. I had it fully charged and it was asleep on my desk. When I went to use it two days later the battery was completely drained. I have never had this happen to any Apple laptop in the past. I just gave my daughter an at Intel MacBook Air, and always used the same procedure and the computer was at least 80% charged when I went to use it.

What’s going on?

After contacting Apple and talking to one of their tech people, it was determined that the auxiliary drive that was running Time Capsule was draining the battery. Once I detached the drive the machine stays charged.

If your computer is at your desk, just leave it plugged in so the battery does not drain when external devices are attached.
