I just bought (last week) a brand new M2 MacBook Air. I had it fully charged and it was asleep on my desk. When I went to use it two days later the battery was completely drained. I have never had this happen to any Apple laptop in the past. I just gave my daughter an at Intel MacBook Air, and always used the same procedure and the computer was at least 80% charged when I went to use it.

If your computer is at your desk, just leave it plugged in so the battery does not drain when external devices are attached.

As your Mac is brand new I would contact the store you purchased it from or Apple themselves if purchased directly from them through the Apple Store.

Since purchasing your new Air how many times have you charged it? Just the once? Or does the battery completely drain every time while asleep?
Charged at least twice before today.
The battery drained completely each time.
