Scanning Software for Mac

I have a MacOS Venture 31.1 with an Epson V600 Scanner and trying to utilize SilverFast 8.8.

I go through all the procedures with SilverFast - try the PreScan and only shows in the small preview box NOT in the larger PreView window on the right. I have looked everywhere to just get past this with no results. Difficult to get on-line support from SilverFast.

I've noticed others using talking about VueScan. Im thinking of switching to VueScan. Anyone out there have any experience or suggestions or recommendations for this problem and preference for scanning? I am scanning our family photos and paper documents - includes slides and negatives. Just want performance and ease........thanks!

Version 8.8 is probably not compatible with Ventura. I'm using 9.1.5 with my Epson V850 Pro and it works fine. If you prefer Silverfast, consider upgrading.

I tried to find out what the upgrade cost would be on their site, but after you've chosen your scanner make and model, OS version and Upgrade, it just pops up a message to update from within your current version of Silverfast. I would imagine that's the only place you'll see the upgrade price.

Edit: Ah! Great suggestion by stedman1. It could simply be an outdated driver.

In addition, is there any great free software that will do the job out there that is compatable with Mac and Epson?
