Also recommending buggy Apple's Mail app wouldn't work either.
Why Apple needs to reinvent the wheel instead of learning from market leaders?
Calendar App cumbersome. Mail app is nothing compared to Gmail app. And yet Apple also forces you to kill your brain cells trying to figure out WHY .ics files couldn’t be opened by native Calendar app nor by Google Calendar on the iPhone.
Sometimes I feel that Apple really losing it.

I tried it as well. Imagine crazy looking guy kicking his phone with a finger on attachment in the Mail app - thats me half an hour ago… Mail doesn’t allow you to open it. Only share… and none of the apps in the share list are able to open the file, all can only add it as an attachment 🤣 (nervous laughs)
I can use Documents (by readdle) but its a third party app. I shouldn’t have to use non native apps to be able to open .ics files…
Also even if I extract relevant link from ICS I am getting this 😆🫠
Ok i got it. Now I see the same dialogue but yet again there are no option to import anything not from Mail nor from anything else. I have ics file I need to open (as easy as it sounds, i know how to extract stuff from .ics file but I am trying to be a regular iOS user and not ex-custom ROM Android user 🤣)

I suggest attaching the file to an email. Open the file in Apple’s Mail app, not the Calendar app. Import it from Apple’s Mail app - it will go to Calendar.
BTW JFYI its not that easy “just open .ics file” on iOS. You need a proper text editor because any other regular app will treat it as an attachment and will not allow you to see the content to be able to extract the URL.
Where are your .ics files coming from? They may be malformed or corrupted. I have not ever had a problem adding a calendar event from an ics file, on any Apple device or OS. All I’ve ever had to do was tap or click on it.
I just received a new invitation from another source, as .ICS file. I am able to open it and set an alert (x before event) but when I check all my calendars, this event is not there. Even via Google Calendar (ics received via gmail)

My dialog looks different than yours. (iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16.3)
Did you get to the dialog through Calendar > Calendars > Add Calendar > Add Subscription Calendar?
And may I ask why I even need such a long workflow for something that been working for any other file type? Try to open a file - relevant app will be opened…
