Location dot not following along with my friends location

So, I used to check my friends location as they are leaving work & the little blue dot would follow along with them down the highway. Now when I check it; it just shows the most recent location/spot and doesn’t move. Does anyone know how to get it back to where it will fill along and I can watch? It’s entertaining & helpful lol.

What does a Purple Arrow mean in Location Sharing? I have shared my location indefinitely with someone but I am confused when I have checked my settings. Does a purple arrow next to Share My Location mean that the person I have shared my location with has been checking my location? Started on my I-Pad and is now on my I-phone, MAC and showing up on my wife's devices. Extremely irritating and invasive!
