Did you check what the purchases were for?
How to see what you were charged for
If you see 'apple.com/bill' on your billing statement - Apple Support
If the unauthorised purchases were, for example: tokens in a game, the tokens, (and thus the money) would have been used up (spent), and there would be nothing Apple could do about that. (ie: In-app purchases: The App developer would have the money, not Apple.)
