Icloud video in quality even when choosing "download unmodified original"

Hi,

I am new to Iphone, and I have troubles copying large video files (say, 45 min) to my PC via the original cable. I will ask about it in a separate question, but I have also tried to workaround it by uploading to Icloud and then downloading to my Windows PC.

The file itself is a 45 min long video. If I look at the video on my Iphone, and click on "i" button, I can see that the size is 3.21 GB. If I sync photos with Icloud, and then go to icloud.com through a browser on my PC, then I can download the file as "unmodified original". Then the size is 2.99 GB, and the quality is not good. However, if I connect the Iphone to my PC via original cable, then the size is more than 5 gb, and the quality is good.

So, my question is how can I sync video files with icloud in high quality? And can someone explain me the logic of such different file sizes in those three places (Iphone itself, Icloud, and when connecting to the computer?

I am using Iphone 14pro, latest version of IOS.

Thanks!

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16

Hello apple_avocado,

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. Different file sizes are expected depending on how you import the file and by what format to your PC. We have a few resources that will help you get the video from your iPhone to your PC.

Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone or iPad to your Mac or PC - Apple Support

This resource covers each way you can import. iCloud, and directly to your PC.

"Use iCloud Photos

iCloud Photos keeps your photos and videos safe, up to date, and available automatically on all of your Apple devices, on iCloud.com, and even your PC. When you use iCloud Photos, you don't need to import photos from one iCloud device to another. iCloud Photos always uploads and stores your original, full-resolution photos. You can keep full-resolution originals on each of your devices, or save space with device-optimized versions instead. Either way, you can download your originals whenever you need them. Any organizational changes or edits you make are always kept up to date across all your Apple devices. Learn how to set up and use iCloud Photos."

"Import to your Windows PC

You can import photos to your PC by connecting your device to your computer and using the Windows Photos app:

  1. Update to the latest version of iTunes on your PC. Importing photos to your PC requires iTunes 12.5.1 or later.
  2. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your PC with a USB cable.
  3. If asked, unlock your iOS or iPadOS device using your passcode.
  4. If you see a prompt on your iOS or iPadOS device asking you to Trust This Computer, tap Trust or Allow to continue.

Then, visit Microsoft's website to learn how to import photos to the Windows Photos app in Windows 10.

If you have iCloud Photos turned on, you need to download the original, full resolution versions of your photos to your iPhone or iPad before you import to your PC.

When you import videos from your iOS or iPadOS device to your PC, some might be rotated incorrectly in the Windows Photos app. You can add these videos to iTunes to play them in the correct orientation.

If you want to ensure photos from your iOS or iPadOS device have the best compatibility with Windows 10, try these steps:

  1. On your iOS or iPadOS device, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Camera, then tap Formats.
  3. Tap Most Compatible. From now on, your camera will create photos and videos in JPEG and H.264 formats.

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
