I try to do it from the system and it just gives me endless little moving dots
I try to do it from the app store and I get an unending message "finding update"
It doesn't find it. Keeps trying!
Is it not possible to update this OS on this mac????

There is a 12 inch MacBook (not Pro) Retina model and it can be updated to Big Sur but no later.
