Cracked bezel (chin bar) and vertical line through screen MacBook Pro 13in 2017

About a month ago I accidentally cracked the bezel on my MB Pro. I decided to put black electricians tape over the crack so that it wouldn't grow and to keep dust and irritants from possibly entering. At first it was mostly a cosmetic issue but after about a week or two thin vertical lines started to appear on the screen right above the crack. I've read online that the bezel is a relatively easy DIY repair, but I doubt that will get rid of the lines on the screen. Is this a problem I can fix on my own, and if not, does anybody have an idea of how much repair would cost me?

Hello sjhardy117,

Based on your photo and description of the issue, the next best step is to have your MacBook Pro inspected by a technician and serviced. We'd advise against attempting to complete the repair yourself. You can get a repair estimate and make a reservation with a local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider here: Mac Repair & Service - Apple Support

Take care.

We are end users like you. Only Apple can estimate repair charges after evaluation, but be aware that the display on Retina Macbook Pros is a sealed unit and the entire upper unit must be replaced if damaged or defective.

Other posts here state that the cost of the display unit replacement runs in the range of US$500-650.
