File sharing: How to connect as a guest?

A question about file sharing.

When another Mac or PC that is on the same network wants to connect to my Mac and access shared folders, yes he has three options: He can connect with my user data, with an Apple ID or as a guest.

Now my question: Does my Mac have to have the guest user enabled in the system preferences under "Users and Groups" so that other Macs and PCs on the same network can connect to my Mac as a guest?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.2

Change Guest User settings on Mac - Apple Support

According to this, it seems you may not absolutely need it if you allow all network users.

Experiment with the settings by using or not using guest with both allow all or allow only settings.
