HomeKit no response apple watch

There seems to be a number of posts on this topic but no solutions so far. Before Apple Watch 9.3 my watch was working fine opening my front door using Siri. After 9.3 and upgrading all other devices to latest software the watch will not open/close the front door unless the iPhone is first unlocked and has connected to the device. E.g.

  • I arrive home and ask Siri to open my front door via Apple Watch. -> No response
  • Home App on Watch shows the door but listed as no response
  • I open iPhone 13 (iOS 16.3) and ask Siri on the watch again to open the door -> No response
  • I use Siri on iPhone to open the door -> Door opens
  • I now ask Siri on the watch to close the door -> Door closes
  • l can now open and close the door via Apple Watch while I am at home. Once I leave the wi-fi network the same will reoccur when I arrive home.

It would appear to me that the Apple Watch is not connecting to my Apple Homekit base which is I think my Apple TV.

Is there some way to check the communication from my watch to the Homekit base unit?

Is this via Bluetooth -> iPhone -> wi-fi -> Apple TV or some other means?

  • I have unpaired/repaired the watch.
  • I rebooted Apple TV 4 (latest software updated)
  • I rebooted iPhone
  • No change in Siri / Home behaviour on Apple Watch when I arrive home.
