Re QuickStart and transferring to NEW iPhone, better to download from iCloud or from previous device?

What is the most reliable way, if time is not a issue, from the cloud?

To do from the cloud I need to be sure SYNC is turned on for all apps and photos, etc?

I notice "apps using iCloud" does not show all apps, I dont think. Is there a way to check to be sure an app can use iCloud that isn't already?

If I do it from the old device and there is an interruption of any kind, will I get a chance to do it again or change to the cloud? Is there a way to say USE cellular in case Wi-Fi is interrupted?

This is my wife's phone, several years ago I did this transfer before Quickstart existed and I lost her photos, so I am being super careful.

If you're worried about losing photos, check before doing anything else that her photos are synced to iCloud. Go to:

Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Photos. Must be enabled.

Also check online, at http://icloud.com, sign in with her Apple ID, and open Photos. If all her photos are there, then you are sure that they are synced in iCloud.

Quick Start and iCloud Back Up do the same thing. The difference is that Quick Start is great if you still have your old iPhone, which you can use to transfer to your new iPhone. iCloud Back Up is perfect for continuously backing up your iPhone IF something were to happen, and can of course also be loaded when setting up a new iPhone.

Today, most of the data is already in iCloud (Remember to check), so personally I never use either Quick Start or iCloud Backup, since the way I see it, it's just the same apps that are downloaded automatically and put in the same place as on your old iPhone. Often you have to sign in to them all again anyway. Therefore, I thought a clean install would pay off better. But that wasn't your question.

Now that you still have her old iPhone, choose Quick Start. I would do that. Both devices must be connected to WiFi, but if there should be an interruption, it is no worse than if your wife's old iPhone has not been deleted, and the process can be started all over again - or you can try an iCloud Backup. But my impression is that Quick Start is quite stable.

Good luck.

I've only tried Quick Transfer where I chose iCloud and it didn't take that long. However, this depends a lot on the WiFi connection and how much needs to be downloaded.

I unfortunately have no experience with transferring directly from the other iPhone.
