Why can’t I delete names from my contacts on my iPhone

What happens when you attempt to delete contacts using your iPhone? Do you get a specific error message? Does this continue if you close out the Contacts app and restart your iPhone? Those steps can help when experiencing unexpected behavior such as this one.

1. From the Home Screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle of the screen.
2. Swipe right or left to find the Contacts app
3. Swipe up on the Contacts app preview to close it

Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support. 

To restart your iPhone:

1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power off slider appears.

2. Drag the slider and wait about 30 seconds.

3. Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears to power it back on. Once back on, test to see if this continues.
