Command line tools for Xcode update won't install

System Settings shows a software update for Command Line Tools for Xcode 14.0 and 14.2 available. I keep downloading and installing them and it goes right back to the beginning as software updates available. Why won't they install?

Remove the current Command Line Tools installation:

sudo rm -rf /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools

Then, reboot the Mac and see if Software Update has a CommandLineTools 14.2 update to install.

You know what they say about performing the same repetitive task expecting a different outcome…

Use Bob Harris' recommendation from the Terminal. It will install the last compatible version of the Command Line Tools and that should rid you of the Software Update entries. It is the same approach that I use and will require your administrator password.
