Numbers adds unwanted borders

I use Numbers’ middle-row, left-edge icon under Format > Cell > Border to add a 2pt. border to a column’s left edge. (There are no merged cells anywhere in the worksheet.) Numbers adds a border to the left side of the column but also adds a border to the top and right side of the column. Selecting “No Border” removes all borders. It's an endless circle. How do I tame this beast?

Does not sound like normal behavior. I'm not able to get it to do that (so far anyway).

When you have the column selected and you click on the icon for left-side border, what happens in your table? It should change your selection from being the cells to being the left side border of those cells. Is it doing that or is it also selecting the top and right side borders?

When you click on the icon for left side border, is it highlighted in green? Is it the only icon in the grid highlighted?

Does it have the same problem in other documents or just this one?

I select the column by clicking on the appropriate letter at the very top of the table then clicking on the left edge icon under format>cells>border. It should add the border to the left edge of the column, but instead it adds it to the left edge, the top, and the right edge of that column. It doesn’t make any difference which column I select, the behavior is the same. By the way, I am using the “blank“ Numbers template. I have not tried this on any of the other standard templates included in numbers.

there isn’t much consistency as to whether or not the icon is highlighted, but the results are almost always the same: left, top, right. Sometimes, but rarely, it will produce the desired result and only add a border to the left edge of the column. I have never seen more than one icon highlighted at the same time.

The problem exists in other documents created using the “blank“ template. I haven’t tried it in other templates.

Thank you, Badunit.
