Can't update payment method

The VISA card I have been using to pay Apple has expired. I added my renewed VISA card several weeks ago, but Apple are now insisting on trying to use the expired card to take this month's payment for iCloud storage, instead of charging the updated card. Apple won't let me remove the expired card because 'there is a payment outstanding'. I'm now caught in a loop in which I can't remove the expired card and can't get Apple to use the new one. They say they will cancel my storge plan if I 'don't pay'. Of course I'll pay - if they let me.

See this article about updating payment methods on various platforms: If you need to change or update your Apple ID payment method - Apple Support

"If you change your address, the credit or debit card information that you use with your Apple ID might be automatically updated by your financial institution, and you don't need to take action. But if there's an issue [such as you having a subscription or being a Family Sharing Organizer], add a new card first, then remove the old card."

Apparently that is not working for you so I would contact Apple and see if they have a solution for this.

That's remarkable. Thank you, Limnos. I followed your link through to the Apple Store on my laptop, and was able to change my card details. When I tried to update it on my iPhone, I simply got sent into an endless loop.

Odd, but I've seen a few other people manage to get things to work that way . Glad you got your task accomplished!
