Updated to monterey and microsoft office does not work; cannot remember details of original purchase

Since updating my mac to OS Monterey about one month ago, my microsoft office programs stopped working. I cannot remember the details of my microsoft office purchase, but I bought my Mac in late 2015 or early 2016. I don't want to pay a subscription. I would simply like to use my old version of office that I paid for. I would like to know my options. I need to use Microsofit Office.

Microsoft only supports the subscription Microsoft 365 and the single-purchase Office 2019/2021 for Mac products on Monterey as all other older Microsoft Office suites are retired and unsupported. Office 2019 for Mac is intended for retirement in Fall 2023. Monterey requires 64-bit applications compatible with it.

You can get the currently supported Office 2021 for Mac Home and Business for around $30 if you know where to look, and that is what you will need on macOS Monterey. You can get that single-purchase pricing if you know where to look (AppleInsider, StackSocial).

The single-purchase is sold out on both the websites you mention. Can you suggest others? The price is otherwise $349? I wish I had not updated my operating system, but the message to update popped on my screen every day. I wish I had been warned by either Apple or Microsoft that Office would stop working.

Just wait a bit. Those sites have been sold out of licenses before and in a reasonably short amount of time, licenses were again available.

In the interim, you can probably get by with the free LibreOffice 7.5 until the first paragraph is resolved. It is a purposeful, evolving MS Office clone that has hereditary back to StarOffice (1993). I keep a copy installed along with Office 2021 for Mac Home and Business. There are occasions where some MS Office documents need to be opened and resaved before even the current Office can open them, and LibreOffice solves that.
