What is the minimum OS version needed to install Logic Pro X?

Hi all,

I am still running Logic 9 on Sierra (10.12.6) and would like to upgrade to Logic X. The Logic X tech specs page says that you need OS 12.3 or later to install it. Is that really the case? I understand that Sierra is the highest version which Logic 9 can take, so which Logic can you run if your OS is between 10.12.6 and 12.3?

Many thanks for your help!

Thank you for your reply. There is obviously a version of Logic X that runs on Sierra since I was offered to upgrade from 9 to X from my Sierra computer. After some more search I found the trick is to purchase (not necessarily install) Logic X on a Mac that has the minimum OS version required, and then install it from the App Store on the older computer (the Logic X version which works with the older computer will then be downloaded).

There are many posts about installing Logic X on an older macOS that describe the procedure. In short, you need to purchase (including signing in with your Apple ID) Logic x on a computer that meets the requirement of an installation. Then you can (hopefully) find the Logic purchase in your App Store Account on your old computer as well. From there you should be able then to install the last compatible version of logic on your old computer.

Please use google the exact way to do this. Good luck

Hey there! Sorry to break it to you, but if you're still running Sierra, you won't be able to use Logic Pro X. That program requires at least Mojave.

If you're looking to upgrade your setup, you could try upgrading your OS to meet the requirements for Logic Pro X. But, if you're happy with what you've got, you can stick with Logic Pro 9 on Sierra. Just keep in mind that Apple doesn't offer security updates for that old of an OS anymore.
