why can't i log into my apple account in the apple store? I know my password but each time I try to login in says wrong password

First, do you mean the Apple Store, or do you mean the App Store?
If you mean the App Store, are you using the same account for the App Store that you use for your main iCloud sign-in? If you are seeing this as part of updating an app, was that app downloaded with a different Apple Account?
