The 2nd generation term refers to both Series 1 and 2; the original models don't have a Series number.

Apple uses the term "2nd generation" for the Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) and that is different than the Apple Watch Series 2. See the following: Identify your Apple Watch - Apple Support
