How can I access my iPhone health data, to give to my doctor

I have been calling Apple, trying to find out how to capture the health data my iPhone is collecting, and give some of it to my doctors. The support people have been very insistent that I call Microsoft, as the files seem to be in an Excel format. I haven't been able to reach anyone who knows anything about this, but I was able to "export" my data, and save it on my Mac computer.

I'm not sure if this is even the right place to ask, but I need a starting point.

I'm tired of Apple support people telling me there is no support for this - but even if true, they can't give me a good answer to even start searching. I don't think calling Microsoft is a good option. :-)

Thanks for any help,

I'm with you for the first part - I learned how to do the export, then got it onto my computer. My folder in my downloads folder is named "apple_health_export and it contains four files:

electrocardiograms - which I think is all the ECG measurements I've taken,

workout-routes - which apparently is the "routes" I have used for my walks,

then "export_cda.xml ...and

then "export.xmo

So, I opened my copy of Microsoft Excel, and got:

"

File cannot be opened because:

Line 2, Position 11.

<!DOCTYPE HealthData [

"

That's as far as I got.

Maybe I need a newer version of Excel?

To say I'm lost would be an understatement, but at least I've gotten this far.

The people at Apple Support, when I call, are more lost than me - they don't even know/understand what I've already done, and they tell me to just give the files to my doctor - but his staff knows nothing about any of this. Why should they?

When I try to open the other file "export_cda.xml" the colored "soccer ball" shows up, and the program freezes. This is the error message after using "force quit":

Thank you! That is the first helpful advice I've gotten in the past two weeks. Apple support wants me to call Microsoft.

Can I export the data in a format that I can print, and give the printout to my doctor? His office doesn't know how they could use the data I've been collecting. Can I view it on my phone or computer, and just "print" it?

None of the tech support people at Apple have any idea, other than telling me it "health data" and they can't view it - but they couldn't tell me anything useful, other than when I said the data seems to be in an Excel file format, I needed to discuss with Microsoft people....

I will start with something simple, and basic - weight. My phone is collecting my weight over the past many years. I assume that's included in the "exported" file - but there is no obvious way to even open that file?

First things first … To export your Health Data:

  • Open the Health App, tap Account (or your picture /initials) at the top, right of the page.
  • Scroll down to Export All Data. Tap it and say yes. Apple will warn you that this could take a while. (It does!)
  • The next screen offers option on how to receive the data. For example, you can send it via Messenger or Email to yourself or doctor, save it to Files, Print, etc.
  • The file will be in .XLM format which is essentially a spreadsheet that you can open in Excel, Apple Numbers or another spreadsheet program.

I suspect you have gotten this far and now need help editing that spreadsheet. Am I right? Am I understanding your situation correctly?

If you have opened it in Excel, a Microsoft program, that is why Apple is directly you to Microsoft for help in how to use their spreadsheet program. I would not recommend contacting Microsoft. But if you are not familiar with Excel, I do recommend doing a search for “basic Excel tutorials.” Or, better yet, download the Apple program - Numbers. Many of us in the Apple Community forums can help you with questions regarding that program. I’ve attached a link to Numbers Support below. It includes user guides and a link to the Numbers community where you can ask specific questions.

I hope this helps. If not, please reply. We’d like to help if we can.
