how do you turn off the effects when maximizing windows

is there a way to turn off the effect when you press the green button and go to and from full screen on a window or app? it makes the whole background slide off to the left while the window goes to full screen or slide back to the background from the left when you exit full screen im not sure what its called or how to turn it off but it messes with me and makes me feel a little motion sickness and i would like to turn it off if possible
