Call Apple Watch from paired Iphone with dual sim

Hi

I have bought an Apple Watch SE Cellular 2nd generation for my son, so he can call me and I can call him. I am located in Denmark where "family setup" is still not possible.

Therefore I have bought an esim through a carrier called "3" while my iPhone is on another carrier "TDC". After a lot of bumps on the road I succeeded in setting up the Iphone to the Apple Watch with the "3" subscription.

I tested the setup trying to call the number from my wifes phone and it works as a charm, as the Apple Watch is ringing.

The big issue is that I cannot make it work when I try to call the watch from my own iPhone, where the primary number is a number through "TDC". The phone calls up the number but the Apple Watch is not ringing. So my question is how can I set it up, so I can call my sons Apple Watch from my iPhone from the TDC carrier.

So much thanks in advance.

Regards

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you've set up a cellular plan for your Apple Watch and you're unable to call the Apple Watch from your iPhone.

Is your iPhone paired with the Apple Watch? If so, you won't have the option to make calls to your Apple Watch with the iPhone that's currently paired with the Apple Watch. In order to call your son, you would need to call him from a different phone other than the iPhone paired with your Apple Watch. You can learn more about using a Dual SIM with your Apple Watch here: Use Dual SIM with Apple Watch GPS + Cellular models - Apple Support

"Here's how your Apple Watch receives calls and messages

Call from Jane Appleseed from P cellular line.

When your Apple Watch is connected to your iPhone, you can get calls and messages from both plans. Your watch shows which cellular plan you received a notification from by showing a badge with the first letter of the line. If you respond to a call or message, your watch automatically responds from the line that you received the call or message on.

When your Apple Watch is away from your iPhone and connected to cellular, you can get calls and messages from your active plan. If your iPhone is turned on, even if it isn't nearby, you can get messages and notifications about calls from your other plan. If you respond to a call, your watch automatically calls back from your active plan. If you respond to an SMS message, your watch automatically texts back from the plan that you received the message on. You can respond to iMessages as long as there's an active data connection from any plan. If you want to change your active plan, you can manually switch between plans from Settings on your Apple Watch."

Take care!
