Hey Siri not working in clamshell mode, even with external mic

Siri will not respond to the "hey Siri" command.

I use an external mic - Siri will work when I activate it with the keyboard shortcut. Dictation also works fine. I have tried turning off the hey Siri command and then turning it back on, I have tried restarting the computer. I have also tried logging in to a new administrator account, but hey Siri still does not work.

Have toggled Siri off and on numerous times, restarted etc.

MacBook Pro M1, 13.2 (just updated to 13.2.1 but same issue).

Hello Oliver Jobson,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with Hey Siri not working when your Mac is closed and in clamshell mode, but it works otherwise. What you're describing sounds like normal behavior based on this: If Siri on Mac doesn’t work as expected - Apple Support

If you’re using a Mac that supports “Hey Siri,” make sure the lid on your laptop is open. (You can also use “Hey Siri” when your supported Mac is locked or in sleep.)

While what you describe sounds like normal behavior, we always welcome suggestions and you can submit any feedback with this link: Product Feedback

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
