Camera Flickers under LEDs

My camera flickers on discord or FaceTime when I sit under the certain LEDs in my room. Saw some threads on reddit and they said it has something to do with 50hz LED and frame rate of camera.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 13.2

"Shouldnt apple take care of this and like implement something to overcome this issue."

If you could manually change the shutter speed (frame rate) of the phone's camera in video mode that would put each frame out of sync with your LED lighting and solve the problem. Of course doing so you'd also have to change the aperture and/or ISO sensitivity and/or ambient lighting brightness as well for proper exposure.

I don't know if any iPhone camera can do full manual override like a dedicated fully adjustable camera can. You bought a phone with a camera in it, not the other way around.

Tell us what model you have and perhaps someone who has the same phone can chime in. In the meantime change your lighting source. You could also contact Apple directly and ask them or leave feedback. Hope that helps.

Hello ChadPitt,

This may be expected behavior, as some sources of artificial lights can emit light at a frequency that can cause visual interferences.

With two things flashing, and they're not in sync, then this can result in it appearing as a flicker within videos. If possible, try positioning the camera away from the light source.

Cheers.

"Camera Flickers under LEDs: Can you share the link for Mac feedback?"

-------

Troubleshooting Mac Camera:

A. Reporting this to Apple:

  1. Go Here: Feedback - MacBook Air - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: on when this all began, and how you have troubleshoot it thus far.. Include the URL of this post
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

B. Create New User:

For temporary use, create a new Administrator. See what happens when you log in to it. Do you still get this issue? If not, then is it a misconfiguration in the current user. If so, then you'd likely have to resinstall the macOS.

C. Reinstall the macOS:

Nothing would be lost. It's just that misplaced items would be placed back to where they should be and corrupt system files would be replaced by clean files. Go Here: Reinstall macOS - Apple Support. Use the third bulleted method: [command + r].  Important: Prior to installing an update or performing a reinstallation, to prevent data loss, be sure to Back up your Mac with Time Machine.

B. Any Ungenuine Camera Message?:

Did you recently get the cameral replaced? If so, contact the person(s) who performed the replacement, and have them place a genuine camera in there.See Here: About Genuine iPhone Cameras - Apple Support.  They should have known better.

C. Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come.
